Business Owner 28 years

When Steven was just 16 he was not particularly fussed about school and wanted to leave. His father gave him a strict order over the dinner table one night, “if you get an apprenticeship son, then you can leave”. The next day Steven wagged school and walked the streets looking for work, the first place he went into he was offered an apprenticeship and started the next Monday.

This was the start of his new career, in the first year of his apprenticeship at 16 he was already doing his own jobs out of hours and making money on the side, and by the time he was 18 he had a registered company and his own part time staff working for him out of hours. When he completed his apprenticeship Steven already had his own client base and staff ready to go, this of course was the start of his “full time” business adventure.

At first Steven was just working from his dad’s garage, then moved to a small factory in Fawkner which he quickly outgrew. He then purchased a block of land in Campbellfield and he and his father designed and constructed a purpose built factory to suit his industry. Unfortunately Steven lost this factory in 1989 due to the “recession we had to have”. The recession hit hard and although he managed to survive, he had to virtually start all over again. Steven then leased a factory on a main road and re-built the business up. After several years he then achieved one of his “business dreams” and that was to purchase a factory on the Hume Highway, opposite the Ford factory where the company still runs today. In April 2013 Steven decided 28 years was enough and sold the business to his manager, and is now free to look at other ventures and other opportunities, one of which is “business coaching” and of course “art and water colour painting”.
